A roll of film

Film Forum: "The Mission"

Thursday, February 01
7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Little Theater

The Film Forum will be screening the 1986 film "The Mission". It is a riveting drama, set in the Guaraní missions of South America in the 1700s. The film centers on Jesuit priests and the indigenous inhabitants of the borderlands between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay that they teach and among whom they live. Colonial desires in Europe, and greed for land and cheap human labor, lead to conflict with the missions. It is an interesting look at a pivotal moment in European colonial projects in South America. This semester, the Film Forum has invited professors from around campus to choose a film. Austin Pack and Jim Tueller both chose "The Mission", and they will be guest hosting. Join for a great film and good conversation.
